The calendar may tell you that Carnival is two days long -- the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday -- but in Trinidad the party starts the prior Friday night, if not before. Major pre-Carnival events on the island with the Caribbean's biggest and best Carnival experience include three major music competitions -- Panorama for steel-drum, Dimanche Gras for calypso, and Soca Monarch for soca music.
