The Occidental Grand Punta Cana sits squarely on a gorgeous, 2,100-foot-long white-sand beach, 10 minutes from the airport, amid jungle landscaping on Playa Bavaro. There are a myriad of activities here, from horseback riding to deep-sea fishing and everything in between. It is a sprawling resort, some 865 luxuriously appointed rooms in 17 three-story, white buildings, three massive pools and nine restaurants and seven bars. Upgrades are available to the Royal Club, with its intimate VIP area that gets you individual service and even more amenities.

There are eight room offerings at this resort, four in the deluxe category and four in the Royal Club upgrade.

Deluxe rooms are decorated in a light and airy Caribbean style, with whitewashed walls, terra-cotta flooring, colorful linens, a private terrace or balcony, and king or double beds. The categories within this are deluxe, deluxe ocean view, grand concierge deluxe and junior suite.

In the Royal Club category, amenities and offerings are stepped up considerably, with spacious accommodations, hydro-massage tubs, Etro toiletries, and private check-in and concierge services, free Internet in room, in-room dining, private pool, whirlpool and restaurant and other treats. The size of each room increases in the Royal Club categories of ocean view, junior suite, suite ocean view and the gigantic master suite, which has two bedrooms and two baths, a large living area, private dressing area, double shower and hydro-massage for two.

All-Inclusive Occidental Grand Punta Cana Activities and Sports

No rest for those not seeking it (and readily available for those who do, with the massive beach, many lounge chairs and thatched-roof palapas). Active folks feel the burn with aerobics, archery, basketball, Meringue dance lessons, swimming, tennis, water polo, water aerobics, Hobie cat riding, kayaking, snorkeling and windsurfing.

There is also an activities center with fitness room and weights and three huge free-form, lagoon-style pools to splash around in. Guest with children can use the Kids Club that accommodates youngsters four to 12 with supervised games, sports, playground and kids-only swimming pool.

There is also live nightly entertainment in the open-air amphitheater, and several times a week the Occidental Fun Club Band, the resort's exclusive orchestra, performs live music for all ages.

Two extra facilities within the resort offer activities for an additional fee, including a mini casino in the lobby featuring slot machines and a luxurious spa called Metamorphosis, receiving guests by appointment for all types of treatments and services.

For divers, the resort arranges dives to fabled East Coast spots, including walls, tunnels and overhangs, and a 19-mile reef that explodes with colorful life with the incredible array of marine life there, including damselfish, sea fans, yellowtail snapper, butterfly fish, blue tang, and a family of manatees. There is also Laguna Pepe, a freshwater cavern that spans an area 160 feet wide by 65 feet high. The resort has instructors for hire as well as full equipment for rent.
