Caliente Caribe, Puerto Plata

This 123-acre all-inclusive Caribbean resort is located in the resort area of Puerto Plata, and the clothing-optional resort lives up to the first part of its name, which is Spanish for “hot.” It has three pools, two hot tubs and is located on a sprawling beach near tropical forests and streams that spill to the ocean. Open-air dining is atop a small cliff overlooking the sea, and premium liquor is included in the price.  The entire resort is yours to go au naturel; as the website says “you can feel as free as you want, anywhere, any time.”

There are 126 rooms at this resort, each unit accommodating two to four people, and you have your choice of rooms, studios, apartments and villas. The rooms, studios and one-bedroom units are located in a three-story building on the upper level of the resort called “Seacliff.” The one- and two-bedroom villas are located in four rows at ocean-front level. All units have balconies or terraces.

The sole restaurant here is at the top of a small cliff and features open-air, a la carte dining. There is also a beach bar that serves snacks, and a swim-up pool bar. Unlimited top-shelf liquor is provided, including Johnny Walker Red, Jose Cuervo tequila, and Brugal rum.

The resort offers an assortment of activities including non-motorized water sports, a fitness center, the Susana Day Spa (extra cost), nude beach aerobics and volleyball, Spanish lessons, a pair of tennis courts, scheduled daily activities such as shuffle board, bocce and rock painting, and the more adult-oriented nightly theme entertainment such as “Peek-A-Boo Night.” There is a nightclub here as well, and karaoke.
