Kura Hulanda Resorts
The Bottom Line
The Lodge Kura Hulanda and Beach Resort is one of the nicest hotels in Curacao, a full-service luxury resort located on the quiet northwest end of the island that provides a pampering escape without being ridiculously overpriced. In fact, families can enjoy the amenities and still save money by using the kitchens found in most of the studios and suites. Even if you don't stay here, dinner at the Watamula Restaurant is worth the trip, or just enjoy the perfect sunsets with a drink in hand on the Christoffel Terrace.

Guide Review - Lodge Kura Hulanda and Beach Club
Ever dreamed of staying in a treehouse on a desert island? Curacao's Lodge Kura Hulanda and Beach Club can make your wish come true. The resort's new treehouse -- available on request only -- features a tented bed on a lofty platform with electric lighting, a porch for watching glorious sunsets ... and that's about it. To use the toilet, you have to go back down the trapdoor stairs to ground level. You wouldn't want to spend a week in this room, but it's totally worth it for a romantic evening.

Besides, the rest of the accommodations at the Lodge more than make up for any missing amenities at the treehouse. The top-of-the-line oceanfront studio suites were predictably beautiful with their twin rattan beds, covered porches and sunny patios overlooking the sea; they also have full kitchens, spacious modern baths, and up-to-date amenities like flat-panel TVs and DVD players. But the less pricey garden suites, overlooking Watamula Park, were equally impressive with their second-story circular bedrooms with raised ceilings, outdoor decks (complete with kitchen, hanging basket chairs, and commanding views), and glass-block shower enclosures in the spiffy, modern baths.

The resort's Watamula Restaurant served the best meal we had in Curacao, and the wine list is impressive. There's kayaking and diving right off the small beach, historic caves to explore, and hiking, ATV excursions, and other outdoor activities nearby.
