Definition of an Atlantic or Caribbean Tropical Storm

Definition: A tropical storm is a tropical cyclone that has maximum sustained surface wind speeds of 39 mph to 73 mph. Cyclonic storms with weaker winds are called tropical depressions; those with stronger winds are called tropical hurricanes or typhoons.
Examples:
The heavy rains carried by tropical storms can trigger mudslides and other deadly weather-related events, even if they lack the high winds that make hurricanes so dangerous.
