The relatively compact coastal strip of the Mexican Caribbean resort town of Cancun is home to perhaps the most concentrated group of all-inclusive resorts in the world. Cancun's 14-mile hotel zone, built on a barrier beach protecting a large lagoon, has about 90 hotels and resorts, and about half of these are all-inclusives where guests pay one price for their room, food, drinks, and activities. Here are some of the best:

© Barcelo GroupThe four-star all-inclusive Barcelo Costa Cancun is located in the tourist-popular Playa Linda area of Cancun, on a white-sand beach and boasting all the usual amenities of an all-inclusive Caribbean resort. It is located in the midst of the hotel complex, about five minutes from the center of Cancun and nearby are Mayan ruins at the ancient city of Chichen Itza, among other archaeological wonders of the country. The resort has a huge pool, many activities for children and several restaurants and bars.

This luxury, family oriented hotel has great amenities for kids but also a pair of rooftop pools where adults can hide out.

© Club MedClub Med Cancun Yucatan has arguably the best location in Cancun, with 22 acres and its own peninsula at the south end of the Hotel Zone. Club Med has a sweep of white-sand beach (with view of Cancun hotels all in a row), and round the point (Punta Nizuc), a private stretch of seaside with snorkeling over coral, and a further beach area with watersports. The resort also has a lagoon side.

© Crown Paradise ClubWith a water park and special programs for toddlers, pre-teens, and teenagers, the Crown Paradise Club is ideal for families seeking an all-inclusive Cancun getaway. Golfers will love it, too, since golf is included in the all-inclusive price -- a relative rarity.

© Dreams ResortsDreams Cancun was rated by Conde Nast Traveler readers as one of the top-10 resorts in Mexico, and has won a host of other awards as well, including best all-inclusive in Mexico by TravelAge West. The seven-acre resort is near the hustle and bustle of Cancun, but isolated at the eastern tip of Mexico. Accommodations are in the Pyramid and Preferred Towers, and there is every imaginable amenity and activity for adults, children and families, including swimming with dolphins at the saltwater lagoon (it costs extra). There are five restaurants and five lounges here, and a supervised Explorer’s Club for little ones.
