Located in the lively Cancun resort area of Mexico and built on the beach, the Hotel Riu Caribe is a sprawling resort of Mayan-style architecture. There is the usual range of amenities and activities here, with a variety of restaurants and bars, and day-time programming for kids at RiuLand. A regular array of nighttime entertainment for adults is provided as well, and there is an outside theater with bar, and a swim-up bar in one of the resort’s three pools (one is for scuba lessons). The hotel is about 13 miles from Cancun International Airport and less than three miles from downtown Cancun.

There are 506 rooms at this resort in the categories of double rooms, which include the usual amenities of air conditioning, satellite TV, phone, liquor dispenser, in-room safe, and balcony or terrace; ocean view or Oceanside rooms, where interconnecting rooms are available; and junior suites, which are more spacious and come with larger balconies or terraces. There is free Internet access in public areas, but there is a charge for the service in the rooms.

© Riu ResortsDining at the resort includes Albatros, Maria Margarita, Shangri-La (Asian fare), a pizzeria; and Gaviotis, a poolside restaurant. There is a sports bar, swim-up bar and outdoor theater with a bar as well.
All meals and snacks are included, 24 hours a day. Breakfast includes a full American breakfast buffet and continental breakfast and snacks. Lunch features a hot-and-cold buffet, pizza, pasta, salads and desserts. Dinners include buffets and dishes prepared on the spot, and special themed buffet dinners twice a week. Reservations are required at the Asian buffet, grill and steakhouse, and restaurants serving Mexican cuisine.

The usual assortment of activities are offered here, including non-motorized water sports such as kayaking, catamaran sailing and snorkeling, as well as use of the resort’s two tennis courts, gym, sauna, steam bath and Jacuzzi. A free introductory scuba lesson is offered as well. Entertainment is provided for kids at RiuLand for children up to 12 years old, and regular shows or live music are featured at night.
For extra charge, the resort can arrange motorized water sports trips and golfing at nearby facilities.
