Any time you travel, it's a smart move to pack a least some food and drink ahead of time to save money on your restaurant and bar tabs. It's especially true in the Caribbean, since most food has to be imported and travelers are generally paying jacked-up "tourist" prices at local hotels and restaurants.

On a recent trip to St. Thomas and St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, we used a combination of food brought from home plus some liquor and other items purchased at a local supermarket to save some significant coin. Here's some examples of what worked for us -- and how a similar simple strategy could help you save hundreds of dollars or more on your next Caribbean trip.
