Jost Van Dyke has a long history of colonization and habitation but is probably best known to tourists as home to two famous beachfront watering holes: the Soggy Dollar Bar -- reputed birthplace of the Painkiller cocktail -- and Foxy’s, the legendary Great Harbor bar that’s home to the BVI’s famous New Year’s Eve party.

Great Harbor, the main town on Jost, also has a number of other bars and restaurants. The island also is famous for its lobster dinners, the specialty of all three restaurants in Little Harbor. The island’s third town, White Bay, is where most of the 200-odd residents live. A road connects all three, though most people still visit by boat.

Lodging options include small guesthouses, a campground, and villas. There’s a ferry from St. John, U.S.V.I., and water taxis from the other Virgin Islands.
