Entertainment

There isn't much in the way of entertainment at Captain Don's itself. For that, you'll want to get a cab for the short ride to the capital city of Kralendijk, where there are bars and restaurants with live music and DJs most nights.

The best form of entertainment at Captain Don's are the other guests. We found people from all walks of life, divers new and old, almost universally friendly and happy to tip a glass to one another.

Service

The service at Captain Don's was never bad, but nor was it particularly attentive. Capable, but not looking to bend over backwards for their guests. Since this is not a service-oriented resort, that may be fine for some, but we would have appreciated more ready smiles at the front desk in place of tired placidity. It seemed the first instinct was not to go the extra mile for their guests.

Intangibles

We are told not to judge a book by its cover, but rather its contents. In this sense, I may have done Captain Don's something of a disservice, since I am not a diver. To judge Captain Don's Habitat as a resort, it was merely adequate; to judge it as a diving resort might tip the scales more in its favor. And certainly, I met divers who returned year after year for the resort's moderate prices and robust dive offerings. If you are looking for a place to stay, lounge, and make base in Bonaire with a bit of pampering thrown in, however, this might not be your first (or even second) choice.
