Turtle Beach on the south coast of Barbados is located on a beauty of a beach 1,500 feet long, the name deriving from sea turtles that come ashore and lay their eggs. Recreational opportunities abound at the 164-room resort, and kids are at home with programs and play areas. The resort is only 13 years old as of 2010, but shows wear and tear common to beach buildings. Elegant Resorts plans to refurbish every room by spring 2011. Nice touch: Check in can be completed in the wide-open lobby or in your room, and you’re greeted with a signature “spring turtle” drink of melon and rum and ice-cold towel to refresh you.
All-Inclusive Turtle Beach Rooms
The rooms at Turtle Beach are broken down into six categories: Junior suite pool/garden
view; junior suite ocean view; junior suite deluxe ocean view; junior suite ocean front; one-bedroom ocean view; and one-bedroom pool/garden view. The rooms are scattered in a few buildings surrounding the pools and gardens and all are non-smoking with private balcony or patio, featuring the usual amenities such as iPod docking station, mini-fridge (not stocked, however), in-room safe and flat screen TV.
All-Inclusive Turtle Beach Restaurants
All-inclusive Turtle Beach on Barbados has three restaurants; shown here is Chelonia.
© Elegant HotelsThere are three restaurants at Turtle Beach, and as guests of the Elegant Hotel group on
Barbados you can use the dine-around program to experience several sister hotels. The restaurants here are Asiagos, a Zagat-rated Italian eatery and the most formal of the three; the Waterfront Restaurant, by the pool and beach, ideal for lunch; and Chelonia, an open-air restaurant with international cuisine. Room service is available daily for continental breakfast and dinner.
All-Inclusive Turtle Beach Activities
The beach is enough for many people, 1,500 feet of white sand and terrific views, but the more athletically inclined can avail themselves of two free-form freshwater pools, a whirlpool, children’s splash pool, non-motorized water sports that include windsurfing, boogie-boarding, kayaking and use of a Hobie Cat. Also located on-property are two lighted tennis courts and an air-conditioned fitness center.
The Tommy Turtle Kids’ Club is a great place for kids, with large, padded playground area near the club, with its computer room and all manner of supervised children’s programming. Staff here is super-attentive and protective; parents provide precise documentation making sure their kids aren’t picked up by anyone not authorized to do so. The club is for three-year-olds and up; under that, sitters can be hired. The club is a great place for kids to stay while parents dine at nearby Asiagos, and their kids eat at the club.
