The all-inclusive Island Inn Hotel on Barbados isn’t a beach resort, but it’s close to the sea, situated less than a mile from Bridgetown center and within walking distance of the beach at Carlisle Bay. The 24-room property underwent a major restoration in 2009-2010; it was originally built in 1804 as a rum-storage facility for the British regiment. Island Inn is now part of the historic Garrison area of the city and the building was designated as a National Treasure of Barbados.

All-Inclusive Island Inn Hotel Rooms

With 24 rooms and suites in five categories, Island Inn can best be described as quaint and personal. There are contemporary furnishings throughout and rooms come with air conditioning, TV, patio (in most rooms), and high-speed Internet access (it’s pricey; $5 for 15 minutes, $10 for an hour).Room categories include:

  • Standard garden-view room: These are in the original historic part of the building with exposed brick, accessed by original wooden corridor and with a view of the eastern gardens.
  • Standard courtyard room: These are also in the original building and are centrally located, with walk-out access to the main hotel courtyard.
  • Superior garden-view room: These are located throughout the hotel; three are in the original building, one on the garden side, and two on the courtyard side, and the other six are in the southern block of the hotel.
  • Superior poolside room: These are in the southern block with walk-out access to the pool.
  • Junior suite: These are located in the southern block with garden views, and partial pool views.

There is one restaurant here, the Boardwalk, and is locally known for its culinary offerings, a blend of local and international cuisine. All meals are served here, with breakfast buffet, lunch a la carte (which you can request be bundled up for a picnic lunch if you want), and dinner, where they specialize in items like leg of lamb and, of course, fish from nearby waters.

All-Inclusive Island Inn Hotel Activities

Since this is not a beach-side resort, there isn't the usual offerings of watersports. But there is a swimming pool, and scuba lessons may be booked. The beach is a two-minute walk from the hotel and for those looking to get into Bridgetown (with its myriad of bars, restaurants and shops), there is a shuttle service available from the hotel. There is a lounge at the hotel, open 24 hours, where guests relax, watch TV, have a drink, read or play chess.

During dinner some nights, live entertainment is provided. The hotel is quite close to other forms of entertainment, such as The Boatyard, Harbour Lights, Club Extreme, and St. Lawrence Gap.
