The Tucker's Point Golf Club, ranked as "Best Golf Resort" by Travel and Leisure Golf, is adjacent to Mid Ocean, which has earned a place among the world's top 50 courses by Golf Digest. In fact, the two courses meet at several points over the 18 holes.
Tucker's was redesigned in 2002 by Roger Rulewich, former chief designer of Robert Trent Jones, and is a championship, 6,361-yard, par-70 course. Mid Ocean was designed by renowned architect Charles Blair Macdonald in 1921, and has been the site of several major tournaments, notably the 2007 and 2008 PGA Grand Slams of Golf. It is a 6,548-yard, par-71 course.
Tee times at Tucker's Point can be reserved daily and up to six months in advance for hotel guests. Mid Ocean offers guests tee times on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and given the prestige of both courses, that's a deal golf aficionados should embrace. Both courses boast stunning ocean views from many of its tees, undulating fairways and grand greens, as well as glimpses of Tucker's Town. The staff at Tucker's Point manage the experience from booking tee times to providing transfers to and from Mid Ocean Club.
Tucker's Point Golf Course is the only fully irrigated private course in Bermuda and uses a one-acre, four-million gallon manmade lake -- Bermuda's largest. The course features TifEagle putting surfaces, a new Bermuda hybrid grass, and a custom club-fitting program by Callaway Golf. The property's 20,000-square-foot clubhouse blends into a scenic hillside overlooking the starting and finishing holes of the course, Castle Harbour and the Atlantic Ocean.
Mid Ocean's history is legendary; notables who have played there have included Winston Churchill, Dwight D. Eisenhower, George H. W. Bush, and Babe Ruth.
Tucker's Point Golf Club is a great place for lunch, too, with stunning views of the course from the airy dining area that includes a most playful touch: in the moody, dark-paneled room, red-and-green salt-and-pepper grinders grace tables, standing out like splashes of color in a black-and-white photo.
