Guide Review - Mandara Spa at the Aruba Marriott Resort
The Mandara Spa in Aruba is surprisingly small but has an extensive list of treatments and services. Aside from your typical spa fare (facials, massages, wraps, etc.), other options include bathing rituals, a five-and-a-half-hour "Nirvana Bliss for a Day" treatment ($500), and teeth whitening ($199). For those who know winning never comes easy, give the "Zen and the Art of Golfing" ritual a try ($300). Designed specifically for men, this treatment includes an urban cleanse, a deep tissue massage, and a men's sports pedicure.

Upon entering the spa, guests are given a locker, slippers, and a robe. The locker room is quite small, and has three showers (only one of which has a privacy curtain.) If you are shy, be prepared to return to your room for a shower to wash off all those massage oils.

After changing, you'll be directed to the waiting room for hot tea and a snack, though you may not have much of a chance to enjoy the tea or anticipation before you're ushered in to your appointment. If you like to relax before the treatment, try showing up a little earlier so the experience isn't as rushed.

The single flower placed on the massage bed is made of silk, which seems a little silly when vacationing in paradise. The aromatic smell, the delicate Balinese music, and polite quiet of the masseuse will help ease any preoccupations, however. Try the hot stone massage (US$145), in which hot "batu" stones are soaked in aromatic oils before being placed on the body. The masseuse will use the smooth stones to massage, moving fluidly and easily over your contours in a way that will make you forget that an actual person is performing the therapy. For something even more intense, the "Mandara Four Hand Massage" ($230) will have two therapists working together on your muscles.
