Verandah Beach Resort and Spa is part of the Elite Island Resorts chain, located on 30 acres in northeast Antigua and boasting 200 villa-style suites in a village-like atmosphere. All suites have, as the name implies, verandahs. There is a Kids’ Club, two beaches, freeform pool (said to be the island’s largest) and the resort is within walking distance of the Devil’s Bridge National Park. Golf is available nearby, at extra cost, as are treatments at the resort’s Spa Tranquility. Non-motorized water sports are included and there is also a fitness center for guests to use.

All-Inclusive Verandah Beach Resort and Spa Rooms

The resort’s 200 water-view, water-front and garden-view suites are air-conditioned in single-story buildings, each with 700 square feet and classic Caribbean-style architecture and décor, all with private verandahs offering views through sliding glass doors. Emerald green and apricot touches abound inside with a combined living area and sleeping area that can accommodate up to four guests, with a king bed and sleeper sofa. Vaulted ceilings lend a roomy feel within, and accents include granite countertops, and wood, bamboo and rattan cabinetry and furnishings. White-tiled bathrooms have deep soaking tubs, shower and his-and-her sinks, and all rooms come with flat-screen satellite TV, safe, mini-fridge, microwave and wet bar.

There are four restaurants and three bars at this resort.

Seabreeze is the resort’s main restaurant serving all meals, offering a la carte choices and themed buffet evenings. The open-air dining room is one of light pine pergolas, ceiling fans and exposed beams and hard wood.

Nicole’s is the resort’s fine-dining restaurant with Caribbean cuisine, served within warm red walls and dark wooden trim, with rattan, bamboo and soft upholstered furnishings. For a $25 surcharge (as of March 2011), diners can celebrate special occasions or romantic evenings looking out at the Caribbean.

The Buccaneer serves lighter, family-friendly fare with an alternative a la carte menu, as well as afternoon tea from 3-5 p.m. daily.

The four bars serve signature cocktails, top-shelf liquor, wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages by the glass.

The Rasta Bar is just off the main lobby in a beach setting.

The Pool Bar is outfitted in natural stone, and by night, live music and entertainment is provided.

The expansive and centrally located main lounge overlooks the pool and winding, limestone-walled pathways of the common area.

Perched above Lover’s Beach is the Beach Bar and Grill, offering views of the cove, light lunch, snacks, beer and non-alcoholic beverages.

All-Inclusive Verandah Beach Resort and Spa Activities

With two white-sand beaches and the big pool, there’s lots to do doing nothing, but for more action-minded guests, there is snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing, Hobie cats and paddle boats at your disposal at the Water Sports Centre, with instruction. Divers, at extra charge, can arrange trips at the sister resort, St. James’s Club, which offers excursions to more than 20 dive sites, such as Cades Reef, part of an underwater park, and the wreck of the Andes, a three-masted schooner that sank more than a century ago. Golfers can book time at the Cedar Valley Golf Course, at extra charge, a course designed by Ralph Aldridge. Also available is the Jolly Harbor Golf Club.

The Kids’ Club is open for kids ages 4-11, daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering an expansive, fenced area for play in the shade. Inside, the club features a lifelike floor-to-ceiling mural designed as an aquarium. Trained counselors supervise various activities, and there is a nap room for little ones.

Spa Tranquility is where healing treatments, at extra charge, can be reserved, with a décor of natural elements such as rattan, sea grass and wood. There is a fitness center at the resort as well, with Cybex cardio, treadmills, weight-training machines and free weights.
