Natalee Holloway Case

Authorities in Aruba have detained yet another suspect in the Natalee Holloway case, but this time they also have some forensic evidence in hand: a T-shirt that may hold clues to the 19-year-old American's disappearance.

Geoffrey can Cromvoirt, 19, was taken into custody, but not charged, in connection with the Holloway investigation. Holloway disappeared in Aruba on May 30, 2005, the last night of a school trip to the island. No trace of Holloway has been found since.

Previously, Aruba resident Joran van der Sloot was arrested in the case, but later released for lack of evidence.

For the sake of the Holloway family, as well as the people of Aruba, I hope that the latest arrest is the break everyone has been hoping for. As was the case with the disappearance of a young female journalist in Jamaica a few years back, incidents like Holloway's strike a strong emotional chord with Americans, who see the Caribbean as a safe have far from the crime and problems at home.

The truth is that there really is less crime in countries like Aruba than in the U.S., but even if the Holloway case is blown out of proportion compared to the countless crimes directed against young women in the U.S. each day, the perception lingers that the Aruban police have been less than swift in getting to the bottom of this. Let's pray that that's about to change.
