Cancun is not all about tanning and partying: it's also part of the ancient Mayan heartland of Mexico and now home to the Mayan Museum of Cancun, a $15-million cultural and educational center that arrives just in time for the end of the world (or not).
As reported by Rosemary McClure for the L.A. Times, the museum has three 4,400-square-foot exhibition halls and a collection of 350 ancient artifacts , including 14,000-year-old pieces found in the underwater caves of nearby Tulum. The museum is conveniently located in Cancun's hotel zone and next door to the San Migeulito archaeological site.
