St. Lucia officials are hoping that the island -- and specifically the town of Soufriere -- can become a new hub for international health and wellness travel. The first St. Lucia Health and Wellness Retreat is scheduled for Nov. 17-20, and visitors to the islands can experience the healing powers of the natural mineral baths at St. Lucia's famous "drive-in volcano." Resorts like the recently expanded BodyHoliday already emphasize their spa, health, and wellness offerings, and other St. Lucia resorts have improved their wellness offerings, too.
Tickets for the Health and Wellness Retreat are priced at $1,000 each ($800 if booked by Oct. 31). The event will include sessions by experts in yoga, nutrition, and lifestyle coaching on such topics as stress reduction & management, weight loss, youth enhancement, and spiritual equilibrium. Session leaders will include Iyengar Yoga's John Schumacher, Feng Shui consultant William Spear, and Stephen Brewer, author of the book Everest Principle. Yoga and feng shui workshops, pottery, art and photography classes, and outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, bicycling, and bird-watching are included; airfare and accommodations are not. See the website for details.
