By , About.com GuideAugust 31, 2010

Follow me on:

Hurricane Earl, which hit the British and U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico yesterday, is moving off into the open ocean east of Turks and Caicos. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas is under a tropical storm watch, but neither island group is expected to be directly impacted by the powerful Category 4 hurricane, which now has maximum sustained winds of 135 mph.

Next up: Tropical Storm Fiona, which is speeding westward toward the Leeward Islands and could arrive in the Caribbean as early as tomorrow. In anticipation, new tropical storm warnings have been posted for St. Barts and St. Martin, and tropical storm watches are back up for Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts,Nevis, Anguilla, St. Maarten, Saba, and St. Eustatius.

(1) Tropical Island Pictures :

Hurricane Earl dropped a lot of rain and the wind was crazy in the Turks and Caicos Islands but it didn’t come too close to land so there was no major damage, thank goodness!
