Two Storms on the Horizon: Danielle and Earl

By , About.com GuideAugust 26, 2010

Follow me on:

Hurricane Danielle (yes, it's a hurricane again) and Tropical Storm Earl are holding our attention as they make their way across the Atlantic. Both storms remain far from land. Danielle is now a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, and forecasters say she could strengthen into a hurricane tonight or tomorrow.

The storm's projected path still takes Danielle north away from the Caribbean and east of Bermuda, although Bermuda could still be affected by high winds and rain -- we'll know more as the storm gets closer to the island this weekend.

As for Earl, this new tropical storm is more than 1,700 miles away from the Caribbean, so no immediate threat there. The National Hurricane Center says Earl could become a hurricane this weekend, but long-range forecasts are also showing Earl taking a similar northwest track to Danielle, giving the Caribbean a pass. More to come!
