Aruba 'Skeleton' Dive Photo Sparks Inquiry

By , About.com GuideMarch 22, 2010

U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway disappeared in Aruba in 2005, and now officials are investigating whether a photo taken by American tourists in October shows her remains at the bottom of the Caribbean Sea.

Divers are trying to retrace the path that Patti and John Muldowney took when they took the photo during a snorkeling trip off the east coast of Aruba. The Pennsylvania couple didn't notice anything unusual during their trip, but spotted what they believed to be a submerged skeleton in a photo when they returned home from vacation. Others say the picture is simply a rock formation, not the remains of Holloway or anyone else.

Even Holloway's parents reportedly are skeptical -- not surprising given the countless twists, turns and false leads that have arisen in this case over the years as Holloway's family seeks a sign that their daughter is still alive, closure if she isn't, and at least some sense of justice if she turns out to have been a victim of foul play.
