Ladies and gentlemen, meet your first hurricane of the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season -- Hurricane Bill.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center reports this morning that Hurricane Bill was located about 1100 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and moving rapidly west-northwest at 22 mph with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. "Strengthening is forecast during the next day or two, and Bill could become a major hurricane by Wednesday," according to the latest advisory on the storm.
No storm warnings or watches have yet been issued on Bill, but the projected path of the storm would see it possible skirt the northern edge of the Virgin Islands and perhaps affect Bermuda by the weekend.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Ana has weakened into a tropical depression as it enters the heart of the Caribbean: the storm will bring heavy rain to some islands but not damaging winds.
