Air Service to Martinique Expanded

Monday April 6, 2009
In a positive sign that Martinique is recovering from its recent labor unrest, American Eagle has announced that will begin offering daily nonstop service between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Fort-de-France on May 1. Previously, American Eagle flew the route four times weekly.

Flights will depart daily from San Juan at 7:15 p.m. and arrive in Martinique at 9:06 p.m. Return flights depart at 7:24 a.m. and arrive in San Juan at 9:25 a.m.

"This is a wonderful boost for tourism in Martinique following the just concluded general strike among our local unions," said Muriel Wiltord, director of the Americas for the Martinique Promotion Bureau. "The strike may have had a minimal impact on tourism, but we intend to put forth a maximum effort to ensure a successful year for our travel industry partners and visitors to the island."
