U.S. President Barack Obama (and First Lady Michelle Obama) will visit the Caribbean in April when he attends the Summit of the Americas April 17-19 in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The summit, to be held at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, will include the leaders of 34 nations and is themed, “Securing our Citizens' Future by Promoting Human Prosperity, Energy, Security and Environmental Sustainability.”The summit is obviously a hug, high-profile event for the Caribbean in general and Trinidad & Tobago in particular. Be aware, however, that if your travel plans include Trinidad in mid-April that the city's major hotels are sold out, that many streets in Port of Spain will be closed down, and that security considerations are likely to create a high degree of disruption in the Trinidad capital for the duration of the summit.
