Holders Season Lineup for 2009

Holders Season is the biggest annual cultural event in Barbados, if not the entire Caribbean, and the 2009 edition promises to be a good one. The festival is slated for March 14-April 4, 2009, with ticket prices starting at $15.

Here's the 2009 Holders Season schedule:

  • Saturday, March 14: Comedy Night -- Ole with Paul Morocco, Guillermo De Endaya and Antonio Gomez will feature comedy and guitar music from Spain, Cuba and South America
  • Monday, March 16: Barbados Heart and Stroke Foundation Night
  • Wednesday, March 18: Bravissimo: The World of Italian Opera -- featuring professionals from New York's Metropolitan and City Operas and the Myriad Singers of Barbados
  • Friday, March 20: Classical Evening in the gardens
  • Saturday, March 21: The Sounds of Africa -- Malian music star Bassekou Kauyate and his band Ngoni ba (Mali) will enchant guests with African blues
AMERICAS WEEK:
  • Monday, March 23: Canada's 'Celtic' fiddling sensation Natalie McMaster will entertain with fiddling and step dancing
  • Wednesday, March 25: A Tribute to Frank Sinatra with Louis Hoover and The Ronnie Scott's Allstars
  • Friday, March 27: Mark Twain: The Traveler -- performed by actor Carl Pritner
  • Saturday, March 28: Cafe Holders -- A new event featuring an intimate garden party with live jazz, food and drink
  • Tuesday, March 31: Classical Evening with Juilliard trained pianist Greg Anderson
  • Thursday, April 2: Have You Had it Long Madam? -- A special evening of "behind the scenes" information from BBC television's Antiques Roadshow veterans Hilary Kay and Peter Atterbury
  • Saturday, April 4: Gala Finale Evening -- the social event of the year closing the two week Holders Season with special guest stars to be announced
