James Bond and the Caribbean

Friday November 14, 2008
My first real impressions of the Caribbean came not in person but on film, notably through such James Bond films as Thunderball and Live and Let Die. As a long-time fan of the Ian Fleming books and the series of 007 films I was thrilled with the return of "Bond, James Bond" as leading man Daniel Craig took the helm in the remake of "Casino Royale," and doubly so as Craig returns in "Quantum of Solace" this weekend.

For Bond fans, part of the fun in visiting the Caribbean is checking out some of the original filming locations in destinations like Jamaica and the Bahamas, as detailed in my article, Travel Agent 007: Exploring James Bond's Caribbean. David Allan of the New York Times also recently put together a nice article on Ian Fleming's Jamaica, and hardcore Bond fanatics will love Martijn Mulder's exquisitely detailed new travel guidebook, On the Tracks of 007, which will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about James Bond filming locations all around the world.
