Winter Baseball in the Dominican Republic

Friday September 19, 2008
The Major League Baseball pennant chase has entered its stretch run, and in a few short weeks the 2009 World Series will be history. But that doesn't mean you have to do without baseball until spring training: Each year when the majors wrap up their season, Winter League baseball gets underway in the Dominican Republic.

Baseball is huge in Caribbean islands from Cuba to Curacao, but perhaps no more so than in the Dominican Republic, which has sent over 100 players to the major leagues, including current stars like Manny Ramierez, David Ortiz, and Jose Reyes. Travelers heading to the D.R. this winter can catch a Winter League game in La Romana or Santo Domingo, both convenient to major tourist destinations. Learn more in my new article, Enjoy Winter League Baseball in the Dominican Republic.
