Tropical Storm Fay Drenches Caribbean, Heads for Keys
Monday August 18, 2008
A tropical storm warning has been issued for the Florida Keys as Tropical Storm Fay drifted north after drenching Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Cuba with torrential rains. Flooding caused at least five deaths on Hispanola as the storm passed over the island.
Fay is expected to have maximum sustained winds of up to 74 mph -- near hurricane strength -- when it hits Florida.
Some tourists were leaving the Keys ahead of the storm, but most residents said they were not worried that the relatively weak storm would bring major damage to the islands.
