JetBlue to Fly Nonstop Between Santo Domingo and San Juan

Wednesday August 13, 2008
JetBlue Airways will launch its first inter-Caribbean service on Dec. 18, with a new nonstop route between Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The airline also announced plans to add nonstop winter holiday flights between Boston and Santo Domingo and add more flights between New York and Puerto Plata, Santiago, and Santo Domingo, and between Boston and San Juan.

Airline officials said the Santo Domingo-San Juan service has been one of JetBlue customers' most-requested routes. Fares for the flight will range from $89 to $275 each way. The route will be served by Embraer 190 jets.

"We applaud JetBlue for deepening its engagement in the Caribbean at a time when preserving and expanding air access in the region is of utmost concern to all our islands," said Terestella Gonzalez Denton, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

The airline said that the new flights will position JetBlue as the second-largest U.S. airline to the Atlantic/Caribbean region this winter, trailing only longtime leader American Airlines.
