The National Hurricane Center reports that Hurricane Bertha has weakened to a Category 1 hurricane after briefly surging to Category 3 strength. As of 5 pm on Tuesday the storm had maximum sustained winds of 85 mph and was located about 900 miles southeast of Bermuda. Forecasters predicted that the storm would weaken even further, slow down, and turn more to the north-northwest.
Large swells and high surf could affect Bermuda starting tomorrow; however, no hurricane warning or watch has been issued for Bermuda as of this hour.
