Tropical Storm Bertha, which formed off the African coast late last week, is now Hurricane Bertha, the first hurricane of the 2008 season. As of 11 a.m. on Monday, Bertha had maximum sustained winds of 95 mph, and the National Hurricane Center predicted that the storm will get stronger and could become a Category 2 hurricane by later today.
Hurricane Bertha is moving north-northwest at about 15 mph and was located 775 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands of the Caribbean (Anguilla, Barbuda, St. Barths, St. Martin, etc.).
The current projection for the storm, however, would see the storm track north of the Caribbean and perhaps impacting Bermuda by later this week.
