Malaria Warning for Great Exuma, Bahamas
"Based on the repeated instances of chloroquine-sensitive Plasmodium falciparum malaria occurring in travelers to the island of Great Exuma, there appears to be an ongoing, low-level risk of malaria infection for people traveling to the island," the CDC warned.
The health agency recommended that Great Exuma visitors take chloroquine as a preventative and use insect repellent, netting, and other measures to prevent mosquito bites. The CDC also publishes a useful guide to preventing mosquito bites while traveling in the tropics.
