Curacao Little Leaguers Advance in Little League World Series
Friday August 24, 2007
If you're traveling in Curacao and looking for a conversational ice-breaker with local residents, showing off your knowledge of Little League baseball is usually a good place to start. Curacao has become a perennial Little League World Series power in this baseball-mad country (Curacao native and Atlanta Braves outfielder Andruw Jones is a national hero), and the nation's team of 12-year-olds was world champs in 2004.
Yesterday, Curacao upset heavily favored regional rival Venezuela to advance to the International finals in the 2007 tournament. I'm sure everyone in Curacao is going nuts! So good luck to the Curacao kids against Japan on Saturday, and hopefully we will see them in the finals versus the winners of the U.S. bracket!
