Caribbean Travelers a Hardy Bunch

Thursday August 23, 2007
Much has been made of the supposedly wimpy nature of U.S. tourists, so this story brought a bit of a smile to my face -- and probably warmed the hearts of Caribbean tourism officials.

A TripAdvisor survey finds that 95 percent of the 1,200 travelers queried said that the recent Caribbean hurricanes won't make them alter their fall travel plans. Moreover, while 18 percent of travelers said they would cancel their travel plans if there was a possibility of a hurricane hitting their destination, 33 percent said they would do so only if a direct hit by a hurricane was imminent. And 16 percent said they would ride the storm out.

TripAdvisor said 14 percent of those surveyed said they were planning a Caribbean trip this fall.
