Update on New Flights to the Caribbean

Airlines, including both major carriers like American Airlines, regional giants like Air Jamaica, and discounters like JetBlue, continue to improve their service to the Caribbean. Check out the most recent additions to flight schedules before making your fall and winter travel plans; for an overview of all air service to the Caribbean, and contact information on all of the major airlines serving the region, see my Caribbean Airlines pages!
  • Effective Jan. 11, 2007, Air Jamaica will fly three times weekly (Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday) nonstop from New York/JFK to St. Lucia, with continuing service to Jamaica.
  • American Eagle is adding two daily flights from San Juan to Anguilla on Dec. 14.
  • Continental will add a second weekly nonstop from Newark to Bonaire on Dec. 16.
  • Delta will add daily nonstops from Atlanta to Santiago and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on Dec. 9. A weekly (Saturday) nonstop from Atlanta to Martinique will be launched Dec. 16.
  • Northwest is adding a nonstop from Detroit to St. Thomas on Jan. 6, 2007.
  • Caribbean Sun Airlines launched new service between San Juan and Santo Domingo in July, with eight daily nonstops.
  • JetBlue, which launched its new Bermuda service in May, added daily flights between Boston and Nassau in February and daily nonstops from JFK to Aruba in September. The airline will add a second nonstop to Aruba on Saturdays starting Dec. 2.
Travelers should also note that BWIA West Indies Airways will be replaced by Caribbean Airlines on Jan. 1, 2007. The new airline will honor both BWIA tickets and frequent-flyer miles.
