Our Lucaya Throws Wet T-Shirt on Spring Breakers

Tuesday September 12, 2006
The Westin and Sheraton Our Lucaya resorts on Grand Bahama Island have yanked the welcome mat away from groups of students looking for a party spot for Spring Break 2007. Resort officials say that beginning next year, they will no longer accept reservations from students or groups under the age of 21 during the months of March and April.

"Our top priority has always been and continues to be the comfort and convenience of our guests," said sales director Ty Brassie. "We’ve decided to forgo this segment of business in order to preserve the family-friendly environment that Our Lucaya is known for."

A spokesperson for the resort said that the policy change was not the result of any "particular incident per se, just a drop-off in family and meetings business, and some complaints about noise from spring breakers at the Sheraton last year."
